Gurf MorlixWhen it comes to solid platinum pedigree, few can match the accomplishments of Gurf Morlix and, tempting as it may be, we shouldn't just judge him by the company he keeps, even though that provides a fine starting point.

He has produced, recorded with, or performed alongside a veritable "Who's Who" of the music business. The list includes Warren Zevon, Mary Gauthier, Slaid Cleaves, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Buddy Miller, Lucinda Williams, Tom Russell, Eliza Gilkyson, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Jim Lauderdale, Peter Case, Steve Earle, Harry Dean Stanton, Billy Swan, Victoria Williams, Dave Alvin and many more.

But, listen to Last Exit to Happyland, his latest solo album, and you will understand why his blue-ribbon associations as a producer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist have led him to a similar level of excellence as a singer, songwriter and artist in his own right.

Gurf worked with Lucinda Williams for eleven years, serving as guitarist, vocalist and bandleader, as well as producing her critically acclaimed albums ‘Lucinda Williams’ and ‘Sweet Old World’.

He has released five solo albums – ‘Toad Of Titicaca’, ‘Fishin' In The Muddy’, ‘Cut 'n’ Shoot’, ‘Diamonds To Dust’ and 'Last Exit To Happy Land' as well as ‘Birth To Boneyard’ - an instrumental companion piece to ‘Diamonds To Dust’.

‘Live’, he’s a true one-of and the earthy stomp and powerful performances mark him out as a giant on the circuit. Not surprisingly, audiences are entertained with colourful anecdotes as well as great slabs of the super-league music that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention.

Right at the start of 2009, Gurf was interviewed by legendary BBC Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris, and performed ‘live’ in the studio during his Thursday night Country show, before heading for his own sold-out headline event at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival.

Reaction was unprecedented, leading to a huge mailbox, many new fans, and the playing of further tracks from the superb 2009 release which features spine-tingling backing vocals from Patty Griffin.
